While visiting the Dominican Republic with my family, I was heartbroken to see the poverty and conditions Dominican children live in. I noticed that the majority of the kids ran around playing barefoot in trash-lined streets, littered with broken glass and rusty debris. When we returned home I was determined to help these children (and their parents too) be able to work and play safely - and that was the beginning of Sole Searching. I reached out to several orphanages in the DR & Haiti to find out what they needed most, I started collecting shoes through my family, friends, and my neighborhood. In weeks I had over 100 pairs of gently used shoes on their way to Haiti and the DR. I'm not stopping there - my goal is to collect more shoes and reach even more communities in these third-world countries. I guess you could say it's in my heart and "sole" to help these kids and their families.
